In between reading Cybermarx and re-reading ‘Labor and Monopoly Capital’ I’ve been casting my eye over the ‘Gershon Report’ which has as the bottom line, the recommendation that thousands of jobs can be ‘lost’ as a result of ‘efficiency reviews’.

Any advocates of this approach might want to also read a new report from the International Labour Organisation which suggests that the lack of economic security is a major factor in producing ‘anger and anxiety’ ‘intolerance and stress’. The UK comes 15th in the table, the US 25th.

Oh, and while a £20 billion saving seems like a lot of money, that’s also the amount its estimated to have cost the taxpayer in the Poll Tax fiasco where a widely unpopular tax was introduced and then scrapped due to public protest. And of course who paid for that…
