I don’t want to get too off message here, but I’m interested that the new Eminem video ‘Mosh’ addresses the issue of democracy in America.

Note the categorisation on the website:

‘Videos: Government’

I am intrigued as to whether this will become the Christmas Number One.

Thanks to the kids for this one - all those hours glued to satellite TV have paid off. They have also showed me all sorts of videos, video clips and interactive stuff on the web recently - most of which they’ve discovered or been shown at school (what ever do they teach them there?). They think of the web as a much more dynamic medium than I do, and expect there to be moving images, sound, high quality graphics. I’m still hankering after command line interfaces and the nice breaks that happened while a file was slowly ftp’ed on a 28k modem.

The point is - they see the web as a multi-media environment whereas I see it as primarily a text environment.

Organising, retrieving and managing multi-media is going to be create a lot of complex information management challenges. While most public sector websites are still informational, there is a whole other dimension on the web which is in a different (multi-media) place altogether.
