Thanks again to my nephew Robin who spent yesterday building a network in our house and installing Mandrake Linux on one of the machines ( the one I use ). We were going to partition the machine to have windows on as well. And then decided not to.

It’s kind of liberating to be using a computer that has NO Microsoft products on it. It’s an experience everyone should go through, even if it’s just to get a personal sense of how ubiquitious and powerful Microsoft actually are.

Was it problematic? er, no. (I put a caveat in here - Robin knows what he’s doing in terms of installing Linux and I don’t - but even so it all seemed to happen with the minimum of fuss and time).
