cooperation versus corporations
Have been struggling with some of the finer irritating points of Microsoft Word today and wondering how comes tabs suddenly all seem to get set in the middle of the page and things like that.
Don’t find the M$ Word help very useful. Particularly irritating are instructions which tell you how to do things but don’t tell where to start; or words and phrases appearing in the menus but not in the help section.
Suddenly occured to me that the place I visit for help is Google groups. Interesting because these tend be co-operative and collaborative places, and they are written by the users for users. The language also reflects this- they are generally much easier to understand, and usually it’s easier to retrieve relevant information. Is this because the comments themselves are written in natural language as opposed to Microsoft tech speak?
