3.15 am…live from Trimdon Labour Club… telly’s on, next to it is a PC, on coffee table is laptop, on the wall a home made swing-o-meter…this means three screens can be watched at once - whenever the TV gets boring I can flick to a number of blogs that are making real time commentary on the events or I can play with the interactive map on the bbc website.

At least one political party’s website has already died, and on at least one blog everyone has either given up or gone to bed. Well, at least it’s a start in trying to engage the technology with the democratic process.

But I will just make this one comment; not a patch on the excitement of the election in 1997 which I spent in a very old labour way in a large pub in Brixton with about 500 other people watching the whole event communally on a giant TV screen.
