During the recent holiday in Germany, I tried to learn as much of the language as I could. I can now speak more German than before - there is still quite a gap as to how much anyone can understand of what I say.

In the small phrase book I was using, it has the following:

to know (facts) - wissen
to know (be acquainted with) kennen

I find this interesting that ‘to know’ (the basis of ‘knowledge’ is given explicity different meanings, depending on the sense in which it applies or is used).

I was also interested in the number of words related to the internet which must be becoming internationally recognised:

English - email; German - (die) email; (das) internet; (die) webseite; (die) Internetadresse; (der) Computer;
