As someone who spends an unwanted amount of time each day removing spam, viruses and other trash and feels it’s only a matter of time before I inadvertently open something which causes me computer grief, I find this story in Computing quite extraordinary.

The problem is, with the commodification of absolutely everything, computer networks, the telephone system, mobile phones etc are seen as legitimate targets for ‘marketing’ - whether we like it or want it or not. And as it seems impossible to separate marketing from criminal activity, it looks like the billions of spam messages are here to stay.

Governments taking this seriously? oh dearie me no, interfere with the market? You’re having a laugh.
