I’ve put this here as ‘archiving’ is within the domain of information management. Or at least it should be.

Have just typed ‘Newham’ into google. For sake of nostalgia as much as anything else (no,it was work related, honest). Now, the interest here is that I used to do this on a regular basis from about 1997 - 2000 when I was the web editor of the council’s website. I don’t remember there being 2,270,000 hits. In fact, I seem to remember that there were so few hits that I would go through *all* of them to find out what sort of Newham connection they had.

So while there is the ‘waybackmachine’ , is there a true archive of each point of the internet? Can I return to a search point in January 1998 which will enable me to replicate a search as it would have been carried out at that time?
