Mobile working? Access 24/ 7? Someone, somewhere is having a mighty laugh about all this balloney, while at the same time lining their pockets with an almost fail safe get rich quick scheme. Yes, it’s called the Great Wi-Fi Rip Off.

In London, at the British Library trying to pick up email. One, you can’t do it on the PCs in the library itself (although you can in the Camden public library across the road). Two, there seems to be only one wi-fi option to use inside the BL itself. This is the incomprehensible and definitely user -unfriendly BT service - which is SIX POUNDS an hour. What with the £3.00 minimum tube fare to get here, its definitely the case that again, despite the hot air from the various ministers about ‘digital divide’, its quite clear, like everything else, this is set to widen.

I’ve finally managed to log on after 20 minutes of being driven insane by one of the worst web interfaces I’ve had the misfortune to have to use for some time.

Hang on a minute - isn’t the British Library supposed to be a national resource? How much would it really cost for the library to supply the wi-fi for free, thereby cutting out money grabbing BT????
