DBC
Spending a warm summer evening tonight listening to ‘casette’ tapes (casettes!) from 1981 of DBC - Dread Broadcasting Corporation - it’s 25 years ago and it’s still the best radio I’ve ever heard. DBC - a big pirate radio station in London in the early 80s. I can’t believe any copyright was followed.
But a small group of people in west London broadcasting *illegally* produced some incredibly exciting and innovative radio.
25 years later, we have the world wide web, community TV and the beginnings of community radio (and podcasting). I hope in all this digital soup theres’ something as good as DBC.
One of the tapes I’m playing has DJ Leke dubbing his voice over various tracks that are being played - and DBC are in court on Monday morning in Harlsedon…’entrance free’ ’starts 10am’….well, at one level they were open source pioneers…
If I can work out how to do it, I’ll put some files up on this blog for all to hear….tune in if you rankin’…..
