IM in Roman Britain
I’ve been reading A Walk Along the Wall by Hunter Davies which is an enjoyable and entertaining history of Hadrian’s Wall and his walk along it in the early 1970s. To familiarise myself more with some of the text I went up to the Roman Army Museum and Vindolanda and have been learning all sorts of extra things from the internet.
It’s this combination of reading books and using the internet to explore people and places mentioned that continues to be so fascinating.
Vindolanda was the site of discovery of wooden Roman writing tablets .
These are fragments but absolutely fascinating. And apparently the Romans only copied essential information in triplicate - unlike today when information resources often get copied hundreds and hundreds of times.
