Just received an officious and unpleasant letter from ‘HM Customs and Excise’ because my VAT Payment is late.

Indeed.

I wonder when ‘efficiencies’ are going to be ‘leveraged’ from reducing the billions of pounds of VAT fraud that now appear to be a record levels?

I would have thought there were plenty of savings to be had by stopping such crimes and building systems like tax credits securely in the first place.
