What is it about trains and classification? A couple of weeks ago I find an article about Carl Linnaeus discarded; this evening I decided to while away some time sorting out some of the photos on my laptop.

I make no claims to be any form of photographer; these are taken to illustrate reports, presentations and the like. Things like pictures of people’s desks piled high with paper (which I’ve promised not to publish). Examples of out of date posters, broken telephones, the kiosk on the Holloway Road covered in grime, that sort of thing.

This is what’s been produced so far:

archive ( there always has to be an archive folder)
buildings
desks
devices
email
factories
information governance
information management
infrastructure
metadata
natural features
noticeboards
records management
ships
surveillance
technical components
telephony

It seems counter intuitive to put the River Tees in ‘natural features’ - but it is; even if it has been surrounded by heavy industry for many years.

A folder called metadata with photos in?

I’ve put the tin of kidney beans photos. Without the label (the metadata)…it’s not possible to see what’s inside. The beans themselves do not embody key characteristics such as country of origin, sell by date, producer and so on.

and so on and so on.

It has to be said, it is much easier to find things I’m looking for; and I’ve deleted all the duplicates which were not easy to see in unstructured folders.
