My friend Bridgette Wessels has just written a book that includes coverage of the ATTACH project in East London. ‘Inside the Digital Revolution: Policing and Changind Communication with the Public.’

The Kiosks! Would they ever work?! We gave up trying; in the end we hoped that the Y2K problem would wipe them out.

I think the ATTACH project started in around 1996 or 1997 - if it had continued, we would be celebrating it’s 10th anniversary. Back then, there was some talk that they would be the future. This was before everyone had a mobile phone and the web in public services was very very new and unknown.

Roll back to 1997 and imagine the future in 2007. Well, we’re now in that future. And here’s the only evidence I can find that the kiosks ever existed. A hole in the wall, filled with a piece of wood painted blue.
