bad eye, BT, laptops, car, mobile phone
Ok, *why* does everything go wrong at once?
Eye has gone wonky and can’t see properly half the time. The amount of sympathy this generates is generally ‘oh dear’ followed by ‘can you do x, y, z…have you done a, b, c…are you going to be at these three meetings all at the same time on Monday afternoon’. I’ve had one visit to the Dr, one visit to optician and one visit to specialist eye casualty at the RVI. To add insult to injury the eye specialist said ‘it doesn’t usually happen to people under 50′. So as well as bad eye I seem to be aging more rapidly than expected. Blast.
Laptop has completely died. The bad thing here is that I knew this last week. I could just tell. Why didn’t I do a full back up? Well thank the lord for portable hard drives - not only have I got most of my data saved, I’d also managed to back up most of my email. I can’t really believe I’m that well organised, but boy oh boy does it pay. I’ve lost about 3 weeks worth of email since last back up so if you really want me to respond to something you’ve sent - please send again.
Now trying to set up email on another machine - but can I get any sense out of BT? To get the necessary setting from Claranet took one phone call that lasted 30 seconds - ‘this is what you need to do sir’. But unfortunately I also need a setting from BT - cue days of aggravation. The big puzzle for me is how and why an alleged *telephone* company seems to hate anyone phoning them up. Mind you, if you’re late with the bill, they do like to phone you up to remind you to pay it.
And the funny noise the car’s been making…well it might be a wheel bearing. Or it might be a drive belt - that’s much more expensive.
Mobile phone - I didn’t realise that it was possible for the screen to freeze. Well it is possible and mine does it all the time.
At least the ceiling that fell down has been fixed.
