Incompetence, confusion, stupidity? What exactly is the cause of all this data loss? Now it’s revealed the 9 NHS trusts that have lost all our data…don’t exactly know what data they have lost.

The reason why I categorise this under efficiencies is that i) losing data is very inefficient and ii) and it costs a lot of money to put it all back together again. The value of data isn’t just in the provision of a service - it’s also the value embodied in creating it in the first place. If it keeps getting lost, it requires more labour to replace it all. And that all costs money.

Hopefully central government has had nothing to do with all the letters sent to Santa. Otherwise no-one will be getting any Christmas presents.
