web 2.0
At the Records Management Conference where there’s a lot of discussion about web 2.0 - particularly as there doesn’t seem to be any sort of clear definition of what this means. Ray Sims has identified 57 different variations. (Did I hear that correctly? It’s an interesting coincidence with the 57 varieties) http://blog.simslearningconnections.com/
One of the presentations I went to this afternoon was by ‘one of the world’s largest consultancy firms’. It seemed to me they were talking more about stuff that’s been around for ages; there didn’t seem that much web 2.0 in there. And the technical solution was Sharepoint, which is controlled, controlling and rigid (and costly).
One interesting anecdote from this was that a rumour went around the organisation that everyone would get access to ‘internal Facebook’; and that everyone was ‘very excited about this’. But that wasn’t to be. Internal facebook wasn’t delivered; instead everyone got Sharepoint’s ‘My site’.
Now how web 2.0 is that?
