Doing a piece of research on landownership and deliberately not using the internet. This is proving to be a liberation. Instead of constant flicking from this to that I have:

- Original source books

- The Local Historians Glossary of Words and Terms

- The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary (Feb 1933, with corrections and revised addenda, 1956)

There is an intensity of detail and fact in the books; it is more pleasurable to read from books that are over 50 years old than from a glaring screen.  There is no distraction of the avalanche of constantly bursting advertising.

I might see if it’s still possible to use the internet rather than the web.
