Anyone who can be bothered could search through this blog and find various sarcastic and scathing comments that have been made about ‘efficiencies’ and the whole language of New Labour that has in many ways been very corrosive of the whole ethos of the public sector.

Two points.

First point:

Under New Labour we now have a nationalised banking system, but privatised railways and ongoing attempts to privatise the health service and other public services.

Second point:

We have had to listen to years about ‘efficiencies’. Many of us at ground level have questioned what this means and how ‘efficient’ some things actually are. Today on the BBC website we learn that no less an organisation than the Audit Commission had £10 million in an Icelandic bank.

If, as could happen, local authorities and other public bodies lose over ONE BILLION pounds because of dodgy financial practices, then the whole definition of ‘efficiencies’ needs to be re-written. And pdq.

The words ‘I told you so’ come to mind.,
